The wait over admission to undergraduate and postgraduate classes at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) came to an end on Tuesday. Admissions to both UG and PG will be through entrance examination only. Entrance examinations can take place between 16 and 31 August. Earlier, the dates of the entrance examination were proposed between 10 and 29 July. Discussion of admission on the basis of merit was also started due to increasing cases of corona and lockdown.
Meeting under the chairmanship of Vice-chancellor:
On Tuesday, university admission co-ordination board (UACB) and Apex Advisory Committee met under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Professor Rakesh Bhatnagar. It discussed the conditions arising from the corona. After looking at the epidemic situation, running of trains and instructions issued about Unlock-2, it was decided that the examinations would be conducted in August instead of July.

After this, the probable dates for the examinations were announced between August 16 and 29. However, it was also said that the examinations would be conducted at that time under the guidance of Corona and the HRD ministry as well as the UGC’s guideline. The Vice-Chancellor also appealed to the candidates applying for the entrance examination to keep visiting the university website. Heads of various faculties, directors of institutes also attended the meeting.
Nearly five and a half lakh candidates have applied for admission to the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the university for the session 2020-2021. For the entrance examination to be held in 202 cities of the country, the university had earlier set the date for conducting the examination between July 10 and July 29. The points related to the entrance examination were discussed in the meeting of the APEX Advisory Committee, the Directors of the institutes headed by the Vice-Chancellor, the Heads of the Faculty and the University Admission Coordination Board. According to the information released by the University’s PRO Cell, keeping in mind the guidelines issued by the government regarding unlock 2.0, the date of conducting the entrance examination has been proposed between August 16 and August 31. However, the entrance examinations on these dates will be conducted on the basis of the then status of COVID-19 and the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, UGC. The BHU administration has also appealed the candidates to check the university website regularly for information related to the entrance examination.
