BHU-SET 2020: Due to the outbreak of Corona, the Banaras Hindu University administration has decided to take admission through e-lottery instead of the entrance examination in the Central Hindu School (CHS) run by BHU. Through advertisements in newspapers, the university administration has informed parents for the same and requested to make changes in their application. Students and parents have raised their voice against admission through e-lottery instead of entrance examination by BHU administration.
Voice against the decision
Candidates and their parents are saying that BHU should conduct its School Entrance Test (BHU-SET) for taking admission in class 6, 9 & 11 in CHS situated at Kamachha, Varanasi. There will be injustice to the meritorious students on admission without entrance exam. The decision of admission in schools from the University’s e-lottery is completely wrong. If entrance examinations are not possible during the COVID-19 period, then the university administration should consider any other alternative arrangement for the students to enter the schools. If University can organize entrance test of UET/PET then why not for BHU-SET. By following standard safety guidelines and taking precautionary measures to avoid transmission exams can be conducted.
This will be an injustice and a kind of breaking of promise from those who have earlier filled the application in the hope to give entrance test (BHU-SET). Parents are demanding for alternative mode of admission instead of lottery and merit-based selection.
Earlier BHU has proposed the same merit-based admission for UET/PET but due to strong protest and opposition of this proposal form candidates BHU called off this proposal and organized entrance test.
What’s the issue
Admission will be done through e-lottery in these schools run by BHU- Central Hindu Boys School, Central Hindu Girls School, Shri Ranveer Sanskrit Vidyalaya, Rajiv Gandhi South Campus Barkachha will have admission through e-lottery. Entry to Nursery, LKG, Class 1,6 and 9 will be through e-lottery. Whereas, the entrance test in class 11th will be on the basis of high school marks.
It was decided by the BHU administration to change the entrance examination pattern by seeing the current scenario of COVID-19. As entrance test was delayed from the month of March and admission can’t be done till now. Basically sessions commence from April and this is the time to conduct half-yearly exams. To keep the aspirants safe, this tough call was taken.
Examination in new normal
We can observe that every entrance test, competitive exams, are taking place in new normal situation by following all the guidelines issued by Government like use of hand sanitizers, entry only after wearing a mask, self-declaration, calling candidates half an hour before the commencement of the test, etc. Few of examinations were successfully conducted by state and central Government like NEET, JEE (Mains), UP B.ed, BHU itself is conducting UET/PET in new normal.
This is the point that every parent is advocating for, why BHU SET can’t be organized in new normal? Guardians and students are opposing for decision but no official announcement is made form the side of BHU regarding alternative mode of admission.
