At this time, there are no specific vaccines for treating COVID-19. However various scientists are trying their best to make its vaccine. There are many ongoing clinical trials to find a proper vaccine for its complete treatment. Even though various researches are going on regarding the vaccine. Patanjali, an Indian Ayurvedic brand has come with their medicine with 100% cure of this pandemic.

Most famous yoga guru Baba Ramdev has launched an alternative drug- Coronil for coronavirus and confirmed that there was a huge success during its clinical trials. He also added that there was a 100% improvement in 280 patients which were the part of its testing.

The medicine is in a part of a kit which includes tablets named Coronil and Swasari Vati, and oil called Anu Oil. Two tablets are prescribed to be consumed with hot water half an hour after each meal. The company said that this quantity is suitable for people between 15 to 80 years of age. They also added that children could also take this medicine but the dosage should be half that is prescribed to adults.

He said the trials had been conducted along with the National Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) University in Jaipur. NIMS director Dr. Anurag Tomar the director of NIMS told that every necessary approval for the clinical trials had been taken and permission from CTRI was also already taken before the conducting of trials.

However, Mr. Raghu Sharma, Rajasthan health minister confirmed that the Baba Ramdev did not take any permission from the state government for conducting the clinical trials. He also mentioned that they had neither received any proposal for the test, nor any kind of permission is granted had to anyone in this regard.

He further added that Ayurvedic medicines could perform like immunity boosters but affirming a cure without permission of the Ayush ministry was not tolerable.

Patanjali claimed that the medicine is prepared from the extracts of pure Giloy, Tulsi, and Ashwagandha. Patanjali also stated that its corona medicine kit can also be taken as a precaution for coronavirus. Ramdev argues that this is not an immunity booster but a cure for coronavirus.

Ayurvedic, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) ministry had asked Patanjali Ayurved Ltd to provide the details regarding the medicines. The details that have been asked were the name and composition of the medicines, information on sites or hospitals where the research study was conducted and the protocols followed.

Other details that have been asked as per the notification by AYUSH ministry are information on sample size, the Institutional Ethics Committee clearance, CTRI registration, results in data of the study. Also, they have asked to stop advertising for such claims until the issue is properly examined.

What the state governments say upon CORONIL?

There has been no permission in the first place from the ministry or the Indian Council of Medical Science has not given any permission in the first place for its advertisement. There have been several complaints in various states regarding the advertisement of Patanjali’s Coronil. All the states have their own opinions about it.

The government of Maharashtra said that legal action will be taken in opposition to Patanjali if they try to promote or sell their drugs before allowed by Ayush Ministry. Anil Deshmukh, Home minister said that an offense would be registered against them if they tried to sell or advertise.

Rajasthan government also confirmed that Patanjali’s Coronil will not be accepted without the permission of the Ayush ministry. Raghu Sharma also stated that no permission is given to Patanjali to sell their anti-corona drug. In addition to it, he also said that the decision will be taken once ICMR approves.

YS Rawat Licence Officer, Uttarakhand Ayurved Department cleared that a legal notice has been issued to Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved asking about permission to make the Ayurvedic formulation for treating COVID-19. Union minister Shripad Naik said that Patanjali Ayurved has submitted its reports to the Ayush ministry. The Uttarakhand government further claimed that the license, issued to the Ayurveda products manufacturing company was to the development of immunity boosters and not a medicinal cure for coronavirus. The government said it may cancel the license provided to Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved for making immunity boosters if they don’t provide any satisfactory reply.
