M.Pharma (Ayurveda): About the Course

The faculty of Ayurveda, Institute of Medical Sciences offer M.Pharma (Ayurveda), a 2-year master course which was started in 2011 as one of the special courses at Rajiv Gandhi South Campus, BHU. The university continues to stand among one of the prestigious central universities of India. As a result of increased demand for ayurvedic products many ayurvedic companies are coming up and this course works as a platform to meet the increasing demand of skilled professionals for ayurvedic drug manufacturing, Research and Development and dispensing as well.

Moreover, this course also provides an opportunity for self-employment. To meet the above requirement and develop such skilled individuals we have well-qualified teachers under whose supervision students carry out several projects, presentations and research work, thesis and practicals.


Students who have passed B.Pharma (Ay) from a recognized university with at least

  • 50%marks in aggregate for GEN
  • 45%marks in aggregate for OBC/PC

In case of ST/SC, there is no requirement for any minimum percentage but the student must pass the
qualifying exam.


The university conducts a separate entrance exam in the month of June for which the notifications are available beforehand on the website. The candidates have to apply online at the BHU website (www.bhu.ac.in/ims). Admission to the course is done on a merit basis.

No of seats- 15 (internal-8 external-7)
In case of non-availability of internal candidates, remaining vacant seats are filled up by external candidates.


Along with the university fee, students have to submit a demand draft of 75,000 every year. (For 2 consecutive years)
Course fee = university fee + demand draft.

Various activities are organized for students

  • Campus field visits are organised on a regular basis for identification of plant species.
  • Presentations and projects
  • National and international seminars
  • Preparation of Ayurvedic formulations like Chawanprash, Rasa Sindoor.
  • Extraction of new drugs from natural origin.
  • Use of rat models for testing of prepared drug and other research work.
  • Submission of thesis work.

Private sector

  • Own pharmacy
  • As production manager
  • As quality assurance executive
  • As quality control executive

Government sector

  • As drug inspector
  • Can opt for CCRAS
  • Pharmacist in government hospital
  • As an analyst in laboratories
  • Jobs In Ayush ministry

Students can also pursue PhD and go for careers in teaching or research and development field. They can also go for MBA in branches like pharmacy management or health-care management based on their interest.


The placement cell of the RGSC BHU organizes campus interview for students every year. Different ayurvedic companies like Baidyanath Ayurveda Bhawan Pvt. Ltd., Swastha Vardhak etc are invited for placement of students. Several students have been placed in reputed industries like EMAMI Pvt Ltd, DABUR, BAIDHYANATH AYURVEDA BHAWAN Pvt Ltd and have been engaged as Quality Control head, Production Manager, Quality Assurance head, Pharmacist or as professors in various pharmacy colleges or as Researcher at different places.
