NSS Seven Days Camp at AMPGC, BHU

What is NSS (National Service Scheme)?

National Service Scheme (NSS) is a two-year program; enrollment in which is sought under any of the recognized universities. It demands two years of dedication to social services. During this, one has to attend a number of 1 days camps and a seven days camp compulsorily.

One day Camp

These are conducted on any current topics and needs of the society. For instance blood donation camps, cleanliness drives and various other awareness programs.

Seven days Camp

As the name suggests, it is conducted for a duration of seven days. Generally, conducted in the time frame of 9 AM to 5 PM. Mostly, involving fieldwork and activity sessions. Moreover, it has a great impact on the final certificate. Best volunteer, evergreen volunteer and rewards for each particular event are also awarded.

NSS in AMPGC, BHU

Currently, there are 64 units of NSS working under the BHU division. Out of which, 5 units are headed by Arya Mahila P.G. College. Recently, Arya Mahila P.G. College hosted a 7 days camp; jointly organised by NSS units’ C’ and ‘D’. The camp started on the 22nd day of March 2021 with Dr Rachna Dubey (Principal, AMPGC) laying the foundation. After being welcomed by the volunteers with the NSS clap, she addressed the students. She eventually explained the impact of NSS on the personality of the students. Her warm words boosted the confidence of the volunteers.

Dr Garima Gupta (Assistant Professor, department of psychology, AMPGC) and Dr Anita Singh (Assistant Professor, Department of history, AMPGC) were the program officers of units ‘C’ and ‘D’ respectively. They guided the students for the upcoming activities and challenges during the camp.

It enrolled a hundred volunteers from both units (50 each). The idea behind the camp was to inculcate the main motive of NSS which says ”NOT ME BUT YOU”.

Permission was granted to conduct the camp within the campus only, following all the safety measures. However, the camp was conducted offline for the first two days and was shifted online later on. Due to the sudden shutdown of the University; owing to the pandemic.

Although the camp involved physical activities and fieldwork. But the online camp was divided into two parts i.e. Activity and lecture sessions; hence ensuring overall growth.

The valedictory was held on the 28th of march in the dignified presence of Dr Rachana Dubey (Principal, AMPGC), Dr Shashikant Dixit (manager, AMPGC) and Dr Bala Lakhendra (NSS program co-ordinator, BHU) and the program officers. The program was hosted by volunteer Aditi Trivedi of unit‘D’. Feedback reports were presented by Madhu Kushwaha, Aditi Mishra, Shweta Yadav, and Yuvika Tiwari. Prize distribution was done by the program officers for seven days. The program concluded with the vote of thanks by Aditi Banerjee of unit ’C’ and the national anthem.
