SUPER PINK MOON: Experience the brightest full moon of 2020!

So, aren’t you excited to see the SUPER PINK MOON of 2020! During this lockdown when we are getting bored and have nothing to do, we have got something new to discover and something really interesting to know about.

Yes, on April 7th i.e. on Tuesday we have a golden opportunity to experience a SUPER PINK MOON. As the name suggests, it will be a super moon but not in pink color. It will appear bigger and brighter, unlike all the full moons. The moon will look more golden and orange especially at moonrise and moonset. It is going to be a spectacular view of 2020.

What is Super Moon?

According to you what exactly a SUPER PINK MOON is? Ok, so I am going to clear all the confusion about this moon here in this blog. As we know the distance between the earth and the moon is about 384,000 km but on the day of SUPER PINK MOON, the distance between the earth and the moon is going to be about 356,000 km which is quite less than the normal distance. It means that the moon will be closer to the earth on that day than actually it is. So, we will be able to see the moon more clearly and it will appear brighter and bigger than it usually does. In fact, the moon is going to be 14% larger and 30% brighter than all the normal full moons.

Why Supermoon Occurs?

Now you all must be thinking that why does this super moon actually occur? It occurs because the orbit of the moon around the earth is in an oval shape and so the orbit has the closest and farthest point. When the moon is at the closest point then the scenario of this super moon occurs. This year i.e. 2020 there will be a series of super moons. Three super moons had already occurred in the month of January, February and March with the names Wolf moon, Snow moon and Worm moon respectively. Also, they are going to occur in the coming months too, with the different names.

Why it is called “Supermoon”?

You all must be wondering about the names of this moon as it has several names. This moon is the first full moon after the March equinox so it is also known as the first moon of Spring. This moon is called a pink moon, heralding the appearance of the ‘moss pink’, one of the early spring flowers. Also, April’s full moon is traditionally known as Pink Moon as it is named by North America. This April full moon is also called Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and the Fish Moon.

When to see?

I know you all are hyped up to see this SUPER PINK MOON and are curious to know about the date, time and the other details so that you can experience such a wonderful view and you all don’t want to miss it at any cost. So, basically this SUPER PINK MOON is going to occur on April 7th i.e. Tuesday and will be visible to you all after the sunset. However, in India, the moon will reach its peak at 8:05 am i.e on Wednesday morning so we will not be able to experience its beauty in the night sky.

Is it harmful to see?

Now many of you must be thinking that can this moon cause any harm?, Should we have to take any precautions while looking at it? etc. But till now there are not any such studies that proved this moon can cause harm or we should take any precautions while looking at it or during the period of the full moon. It is just like a normal moon only it will appear a little brighter and bigger than it usually does. It is not like an eclipse that it will cause any harm or we should follow any tradition as in eclipse mostly the Indians do. So don’t worry and experience a spectacular view without any confusion or tension.

I hope that you all liked the blog and it helped you all to get the all possible information about the SUPER PINK MOON. Now please experience this amazing view and try to spot it but keep in mind while spotting it take all the precautions to protect yourself from CORONA VIRUS and maintain social-distancing.
