MBA at IMS-BHU Vs. MBA at FoC-BHU

Banaras Hindu University is a public central university located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. With more than 30,000 students residing in the campus, it claims the title of the largest residential university of Asia. It is one of the most popular universities of not only India but also of the whole world.

There are two institutions providing MBA courses in Banaras Hindu University.

The first one is INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES (IMS) and another one is Faculty of Commerce (FOC).

Institute of Management Studies (IMS-BHU)

Initially, it was started as a Department in the Faculty of Commerce. With the passing of time and to provide quality management education and research, the Banaras Hindu University transformed the Department of Management Studies to an independent Faculty of Management Studies in the year 1984 and later in 2016 upgraded to Institute of Management Studies (IMS).

About the courses

  • Institute of Management Studies-Banaras Hindu University (IMS-BHU) offers two courses for MBA, one is Master of Business Administration – (MBA) & Master of Business Administration – International Business (MBA-IB).
  • for both the courses IMS-BHU intake 59 students per course. Maximum and minimum is 5 students. The courses are designed for 2 years consisting of 4 semesters.

Eligibility

Admission to the MBA & MBA-IB Programs shall be made through CAT.

The candidates belonging to categories other than SC / ST has to secure a minimum 50% marks at the qualifying examination. For SC/ST candidates, at least 45% marks are required.

  • A graduate degree under 10+2+3 Pattern, OR
  • A degree in Agriculture, Technology, Medicine, Education or Law, OR
  • A Post-graduate degree in any discipline

Course fee structure

Candidates have to pay INR 98914 excluding hostel fee & mess charges in 2 years for course.

Admission Procedure

Admission to the MBA and MBA-IB Programs of the Institute of Management Studies-BHU is done on the basis of combined merit of the candidates in CAT conducted by IIM (50%), Academic Records (20%) and Group Discussion & Personal Interview (30%).

Faculty of Commerce (FOC)

Since 1984, the Faculty of Commerce, Banaras Hindu University offers B.Com.(Hons), M.Com. and PhD. In 1999, the FOC-BHU introduced a separate course in the name of Master of Finance and Control (MFC) on self-financing basis, and this was followed by three more courses, viz. Master of Risk & Insurance Management (MRIM), Master of Foreign Trade (MFT), and B.Com. (H)-FMM.

Recently, the MFC and MRIM have been renamed as Master of Financial Management and Master of Financial Management (Risk & Insurance) respectively.

At Post Graduate Level, Faculty of Commerce, Banaras Hindu University provides M.COM as well as MBA. Let’s discuss about MBA of FoC-BHU.

Course at FoC-BHU

FOC provides three courses for MBA.

  1. MBA in Foreign Trade i.e., MBA(FT)

Seats :  Min -15 ,  Max. –  40

2. MBA in RISK & insurance i.e., MBA(R&I)

Seats : Min – 15  ,  Max – 40

3. MBA in FINANCE MANAGEMENT i.e., MBA (FM)

Seats : Min – 15  , Max – 59

These all three courses are designed for 2 years consisting of 4 semesters.

Eligibility

Eligibility for MBA (FT) (RI) (FM) in FOC is: Admission to the MBA at Faculty of Commerce, Banaras Hindu University is done through PET exam conducted by BHU itself and Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline under at least 10+2+3 pattern OR equivalent with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.

Fee structure

Candidates have to pay INR 1,07,398 excluding hostel fees & mess charges in 2 years for course.

Admission Procedure

Admission to the MBA courses in the Faculty will be made on the basis of  merit of the candidates in PET conducted by BHU , and Group Discussion & Personal Interview .
