What is CUCET? – Explained

Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) is an all India examination being conducted for admission to various Integrated/undergraduate, postgraduate and research programs in several central universities and state universities in India. Since its inception in 2010, CUCET is conducted/coordinated by the Central University of Rajasthan.

What is CUCET Exam?

Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) is an all India level entrance test conducted jointly by 14 central universities for admission to UG, PG and PhD courses in all the participating institutes. CUCET is conducted once a year in 120 cities across India. The exam is conducted in offline mode (pen and paper) which is for two hours. A total of 20 universities including 13 central universities participate and apart from them, Dr B R Ambedkar School of Economics (BASE) is also the exam participating institute. Rajasthan Central University is the coordinating university, which every year invites applications from eligible students. The official dates for CUCET 2021 will be announced soon on the official website of CUCET.

History of CUCET

CUCET was conducted for the first time since 2010 for admission to seven central universities for 1,500 seats in 41 undergraduate, postgraduate and integrated courses. The application form was filled through CUCET-2010, which was conducted on 19th and 20th June 2010 in about 30 examination centres across the country.

CUCET Eligibility

In order to apply and appear for CUCET 2021, candidates have to fulfil the eligibility criteria set by the Central Universities. The eligibility criteria are as follows:

For UG (Undergraduates)

Students will need to have passed class XII from a recognized board to take admission in undergraduate degree programs in central universities. For the general category, a candidate needs to secure a minimum of 50 percentile in class XII, for SC/ST, candidates need to secure a minimum of 45 percentile in class XII to be eligible for CUCET 2021.

For PG (Postgraduates)

Candidates applying for a Master’s degree must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. Candidates applying for admission in the same field of graduation or different degree must have secured a minimum of 55 percentile (general) / 50 percentile (SC/ST) to be eligible for CUCET 2021.

For PhD (Doctor of Philosophy)

Candidates applying for the PhD program must have a master’s degree from a recognized university or institution in order to apply for admission to research programmes. To be eligible for PhD programs in Central Universities a candidate needs to secure a minimum of 55 percentile (Genera) / 50 percentile (SC/ST).

Note: If a candidate has qualified UGC-CSIR JRF, GATE, NBHM or any other national level examination, then they need not appear for the entrance test. However, the candidate has to register for CUCET 2021.

CUCET Entrance Fees

Candidates can fill CUCET 2021 application form online mode on the official website of the exam. After the form is filled, candidates can pay the CUCET application fee online (via debit/credit card) or via SBI Challan.

Note: With the application fee mentioned above candidates can apply at a maximum of three participating universities/ institutes with a maximum of three-course options in each institution. In case a candidate wishes to apply at more institutions, he/she can do so by paying the application fee again.
